Blueberry Picking

Just thought I would share the first time the kids and I have ever seen a blueberry bush. They say bush but these look like trees to me. We went with three other wonderful families that said yes to my insane universe. The kids had a good time, well child's #2 and #3 did. #1 caught the fun buzz after he and his friend found out how much an underdeveloped blueberry hurt when thrown at others. No casualties though. No, I lie. One of the kids was stung by a wasp.

I didn't find out until a little later and I do mean a "little" later that the blueberry has great digestive properties. You would think that I had learned my lesson to not eat so many of them. No. They were just to good and at .90 a pound.... what the H E double hockey sticks.

The kids asked me why I always "make" them pick fruit. I always thought it was because it was a cheap family outing and a way to increase our food storage (Mormon thing). The truth is that my grandparents on both sides were migrant workers and I remember seeing them work. It was hard and dirty work that I was luck enough not to have to do. Growing up around all the seasonal produce one could possible consume was great. The smell is what I remember the most. Clean and sweet. When we drove with the windows down I would stick my arm out the window and feel the temp drop when we hit the fields. If I could get my kids to feel just a drop of what that felt like to me........ It's important for them to know their roots no matter how dirty it is. I hope it humbles them a little to know these things.

and I thought I had it bad.......

This book should have been a quick read but didn't end up that way. Jeannette Walls wrote the book as if she were sitting and talking to me. As I was reading, memories of my childhood would pop up and make me put the book down to remember. Wow! Just can't believe how messed up things were then. I guess some children have to go through rougher trials to prepare them for whatever lies ahead. I would never want my children to go through what I did or worst yet Jeannette Walls. However shielding them from every danger might do them more harm in the long run?.?. I can only do, like I like to believe that my parents did, which is that they did the best with what they had/knew for raising children. Every generation gets better than the last, is what I tell myself when I think I'm messing up my children. How I wish I had a village to help me raise my kids. A wife would be nice too. But no, just me. Like I tell my kids when they get frustrated and angry with me, "you picked me to be your mom, next time chose wiser." I do apologize ahead of time for all the therapy they will have to pay for my ignorance and flaws. So back to the book! I did like it and do recommend it to others. The book makes me not want to complain ( not that I do a lot of that anyway) because it could always be worse.

Dance? Dance. Dance!

The girls end of the season dance recital. When we heard we had a dance instructor in the ward, we saw opportunity! Aria wasn't hear a month before I asked her to teach our girls. She was so good at getting the dancers to want to be there. It was exciting to watch my girls practice/critic each other during the home practices. Saying things like "not like that Alicia" or "your going to fast Anita." I hope they never stop being goofy. Look at them and how beautiful they are but most of all how happy. It was so terribly hard when I was a girl, can you imagine what it's like for them now? If I can just help them build their confidence or find outlets when they can build it now, before the real trials of life begin, hopefully they get up faster when knocked down. Look at their faces. Don't they just say "world, your not going to get me down!"

I can't believe where the 4th book is taking this story! I guess that's what I get for not finishing my BofM, like I promised myself, before starting another book! ARRRG!!!!

  3. Messing up my kids to much.

3Goals....

  1. Lose 40lbs.

Current Obsessions....

Popcorn flavorings, clean sheets, NC fresh produce, I guess that's all. Boring, I know! Oh, I really want to see the sun rise at the beach. As a little girl I would go with my grandma when she irrigated the fields and would stay out till sunrise. It's a joy that has stayed with me. Can't really see that when surrounded by so many trees though. Is it as beautiful as Arizona sunrises I wonder?

Random Surprising Facts About Me.....

I don't think anything I do really surprises anyone that knows me. Good thing, bad thing, who knows.

Did I ever tell you about the time.......

Anthony ended up in the ER? "The Boy" had missed quite a few days of school this past year. He would play the "I'm sick" card. You can never be really sure if the kid is sick or not. So I do the cleaning list thing. You know, push him till he shows sure signs of illness. Like... fever, vomiting that I can see, true fatigue. What's true fatigue you ask? When you threaten the child with groundings or the taking away of his gaming systems and he is to tired that he can't finish the cleaning list. This system usually works but the boy is evolving to fast for his own good. On this particular "I'm to sick to go to school" day I switched it up on him and did the lets play thing. He started out looking just pathetic. Like he had been hit by a bus look. So I started to play with him. He was laughing and playing right back. He caught on quickly though and handed me the phone to make him an appointment with the Dr. I called his bluff and made him the appointment. While waiting for his apt, Anthony came to me with fever like symtoms. Luckaly his apt was just a few minutes away. With all the poking around the Dr. did, she came to the conclusion that THE BOY might have appendicitis. Of course that meant a blood test. Anthony freaked out! He just about fought with the tech and had to be held down. It just so happens that when he saw the blood flowing into the test tube......he puked. Lucky for me the trash can was right beside our feet. The blood results and his oohhing and ouching when poked worried the Dr. And because The Boy was a boy he had to go to the hospital for a surgerion to see him and he had to go by ambulance.
